Matariki Comics

Kia ora whanau and buddy classes,

A couple of weeks ago Room 9 learnt some matariki legends. We learnt how to work out where the matariki stars are in the sky on a clear day.

Then we had to recreate one of the legends we learnt on Storyboard creator. We all turned our legends into comics by creating images from the important parts of the legends we remembered.

Here are some of the finished Matariki comics we made.

Thanks for checking out our blog!

Filipino Langauge Week

Kamusta sa taong nagbabasa nito and our buddies (Toroa room 2 and room 4 Ruapotaka,)

This post is about something relating to a culture that’s happening between the days August 13-19. Now what’s happening is it is Filipino language week.

A fact about the dates were, on August 13 1998 there was a battle of Manila or called ‘Mock battle of Manila’. Quezon was born on August 19th, he was elected president somewhere in the Philippines and so that’s my guess of why between those days are so special.

You might know, or not but did you know if the blue and red on the flag are in the wrong way it means the Philippines is in war.

(see),

In room 9 there are about 5 Filipino’s, how many are in your class?

Room 9s Assembly

Kia ora readers and our buddy class, Toroa, Room 2 and Room 4,

Sorry for not being active bloggers lately. But we have been doing some exciting and fun learning.

This Friday we performed our assembly to the whole school.

Some of us felt embarrassed and nervous but they still got up and presented. Our teacher and our class is very proud of us too. We are proud of ourselves too.

Some people shared their pepeha in Room 9s assembly and some facts about the body. Pretty much everything we have done in class lately we showed at our assembly. We showed some self portraits and art too.

Mr Roberts our principal was really busy but when the children shared their pepeha he stayed for the whole assembly because he was really impressed.

Here is the slideshow that shows all the learning that we presented in assembly.

Thank you for reading our blog. Could you please comment on our post? We hope you have an amazing day and enjoyed reading this amazing post we did for assembly.

Capturing You!

Kia ora you stunning group of humans,

This term we are working on creating a strong narrative. It has to be believable, consistent and descriptive. It has to have a strong structure... and now we are learning to capture the audience by showing not telling.

Yesterday, we were learning to show and not tell. We looked for all our action words and highlighted them. Then we changed the weak action words to strong actions words by looking them up in the thesaurus.

Here is he link to the thesaurus: Thesaurus

This is how we did it:

Here is a weak action word sentence: Al gave Miss D coffee.

This is the sentence we changed: Al kindly rewarded Miss D with a delicious, hot cappuccino.

Thank you for checking out my blog today. I hope you learnt something about strong adjectives and how to change them. Please give me an example of a strong adjective you have used before!

Have an awesome day!

Making a Strong Narrative

Kia ora readers,

Today we will be showing your what we have been doing in Term 2 for writing. This term we have been learning how to write a strong narrative. A strong narrative is believable, descriptive and consistent. We can describe the setting and the characters.

Today we did Sick Sentences. We changed boring sentences into strong descriptive sentences.

Here is one of the boring sentences:
Anna sat down.
Here our changed descriptive sentence:
Anna sat down on her knees on the cold, uncomfortable concrete floor.

We have also been writing a story this week about a girl called Anna. Here is the picture we used.

Some of us started stories and would like to share our favourite paragrphs.

Here is a paragraph from Eddie's story:

Anna was in a weird place when she put her finger on the clean, smooth glass but she was in the middle of nowhere but she could feel something burning beside her. After awhile she could smell smoke and wood burning, she found out that she was in a day dream but couldn't exit.

Here is a paragraph from Divine's writing:

Chapter 2 The New Scary World!

As Anna was in a new world everything in the new world was the opposite of the world Anna lived in before. The rich were poor and the good were evil. Everything there was BAD.

This is Isaac's story:

She got sucked into the mirror and on the other side there was an old deserted house. She had not looked at the rooms but next to her she could see the mirror she tried to get back in but it would not let her so she had a little look around the house. She found the door but it was not only a deserted house or deserted town. she said to her maybe there's another mirror in one of these houses. So she looked in every old house but the big mansion. She looked in the rooms and the basement. In the basement there was the mirror. She touched the mirror and then it made the ripples and then it  sucked her back into the normal world.

Thank you so much for coming and visiting our blog. Did you like our stories? Was it entertaining?
